The Story

Kantha began as thrift — old cloth layered and held together with a simple running stitch, worked by women in Bengal and Bihar. What started as repair became one of India's most recognisable embroideries. Here it runs across tussar, the wild silk with its warm gold cast and slightly uneven texture. Two traditions that suit each other: neither is trying to look perfect.
